It is great to be making music with Lee Purkiss again. We first collaborated in 91/2. More recently, I remixed In Sync's Warm
and we have had a few studio sessions at HMVS, pictured here, building new material, some early forms of which are up on Soundcloud, and embedded below.
We are back on it for 2014, programming and recording mostly with 80s analogue gear, with a Juno 60, Korg Poly Six, MS10, Roland SH1000, SDE 3000a, DEP-5, Crumar Bit 99, TR808, TR909, TB303, SH101, TR606, MC202 a couple of Roland Space Echos, Sequential Drumtraks, Lexicon PCM70, Prime Time, and a few other bits n bobs at our disposal.
I have been working with Aniruddha Das aka Dr Das, periodically since 1985, having met some four years earlier. I have a close association with Asian Dub Foundation of which he is a founder member.
Our current project is entitled Dub Magus, a rhythm section orientation in rehearsal, preparing for some free movements on top, based around the head.
Zafrul used to DJ and promote lounge nights under the name of F B Hawkes in the early 90s, organising events at Madame JoJos and the Cafe de Paris;
working with eminent artists including Tony Bennet, Burt Bacharach and Combustible Edison.
Working under his underground breakbeat alias The BeatTamperer Zafrul one of my oldest studio clients, first coming to Bibec Studio in
Community Music House, Farringdon in 1994/5
In the new millenium Zafrul pioneered a new sound - lounge electronica - dj'ng at The Townhouse, ESL Records, Washington DC, USA Jetset (Hip Hop / Breakbeats / Soul / Funk) and in the UK
Nasha (Eastern Breakbeat) Pressure and Supersonic Buddha (Eclectic Electronica)
He has released 3 vinyl 12" records, all of which I engineered, being responsible for additional programming and production.
We continue to work together on a new set of remixes, mash ups and live drumming.
